The Art Trek is a free bus tour now taking in six contemporary galleries in Christchurch.

Join us on the bus and be taken from site to site, or simply head on down to any of the galleries between 3 and 5 pm. 50 seats are available on the bus so reserve your spot online.

The galleries and exhibitions on the Trek are: CoCA, Screensaver; The Physics Room, Measure The City With The Body; Jonathan Smart Gallery, John Pule and Christchurch Art Gallery Outer Spaces showing Breathing Space by Zina Swanson and Georgie Hill. Also an exhibition of jewellery by Manon van Kouswijk from The Netherlands at The National and Back Burn by Simon Edwards at Chambers 241.

Masterplan

The graduate exhibition of work by students from the Master of Fine Arts programme at the University of Canterbury has been an annual show for some time now, celebrating the collective efforts and achievements of the year’s graduating students. By bringing together a group of artists in a way that speaks meaningfully about their work, but that doesn’t force tenuously-existing connections, the curator is faced with a number of challenges. In focusing on a given group of artists who have studied at the same institution over the same period of time, these exhibitions often showcase a disparate range of concerns and approaches within the artists’ own professional practices.

This year, Barbara Garrie and Chloe Geoghegan, have taken an innovative approach to engaging with these curatorial difficulties. ‘Masterplan’ is intended as a provocation; a gesture intended to stimulate discussion about curatorial practice within the tertiary context.

You are warmly invited to view ‘Screensaver’, an exhibition of abstract projections by Ed Lust from the CoCA window at 66 Gloucester St, opening for the first time at 8pm this Thursday 5 April.

The window project is the first of this innovative pair of exhibitions curated by Chloe Geoghegan where you are free view the work at any time of day or night for one month. Watch how Screensaver changes throughout the day and night at your leisure.

Excited to have a first draft from the designers for our upcoming ‘lost’ exhibition…! (hence the draft X through the image..) Can’t wait to see first book draft.

I drafted a Press Release today, there are a few shorter options but…

“However, when it comes to talking about lost art, the conversations, the stories and the memories are free flowing. Have you ever wondered what happened to Venus de Milo’s arms? Or perhaps what happens to artworks lost in transit? The history of art has always left a trail of fragments, of both wonderful and horrific stories about missing artworks, and how they came to have this curious status.

Yesterady Laura Dunham, the editor of Oculus, has invited me to curate the studio submission of the upcoming 4th edition. I will be working with Jamie Hanton, Director of the Blue Oyster Project Space in Dunedin, which is very exciting seeing as I used to interview him for the RDU arts show when he ran Space Gallery in Christchurch! Seems so long ago. I am looking forward to co-authoring texts to accompany the works that will be selected too. A great summer project!

Curating..Designing.. at the same time! How exciting! Working at first as an ‘editions editor’ for the City Gallery Wellington’s upcoming show ‘A Mobile Library’, I was also pulled into creating a ‘bookplate’ design for the show’s hero image. Thanks to Ferrymead Heritage Society for the type and space to set on Sunday.
